Dr Sharleen Forbes PhD
Sharleen previously worked in a split position; half-time as Adjunct Professor of Official Statistics here in the School of Government and half-time as General Manager, Statistics Education and Research at Statistics New Zealand and currently acts in an advisory role to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. She has held a variety of research, policy and management positions in state sector agencies including the Ministry of Agriculture, Manatu Maori and Te Puni Koriri as well as Statistics New Zealand. She was a Vice-Director of the International Statistical literacy Project, a member of the International Statistics Institute’s Committee On Women and President of the New Zealand Statistics Association and is currently an inaugural member of the IPUMS Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (iPUMS) international advisory board. Sharleen has a long-standing interest in mathematics and statistics education (the topic of her doctorate) and convened the Equity in Mathematics Education (EIME) group which carried out several research projects such as Mathematics for All and The Testing of Girls in Mathematics. Her recent research has been focussed on the ways of increasing statistical literacy, particularly in official statistics. She is an avid tramper and gardener.
